Retina damage confirmed in U.K. PM's eye

British Prime Minister Gordon Brown has two minor tears in the retina of his right eye, his office confirmed Saturday.

But there has been no further deterioration and no change in his eyesight, Brown's Downing Street office said in a statement. Brown's doctors have decided against further operations.

Brown lost the use of his left eye after a sporting accident when he was a teenager.

The news on Brown's eyesight comes only weeks after he was forced in a U.S. television interview to deny he was slowly going blind.

NBC Nightly News anchor Brian Williams questioned Brown over reports that he was using larger and larger text sizes as his remaining vision declined.
