Chris Brown's teary BET Awards performance - Things That Go Pop!

Chris Brown's teary BET Awards performance

In the course of the past week, numerous tributes have been staged to mark the one-year anniversary of the death of King of Pop, Michael Jackson - none more memorable than the musical number performed by R&B artist Chris Brown during the BET Awards on June 27.

Introduced by Jermaine Jackson, Brown took to the stage in a fedora, black sequined jacket and a lone, glittery glove and proceeded to deliver his passionate rendition of two of Michael Jackson's most beloved songs, Billie Jean and Man in the Mirror. In addition to delivering a spot-on recreation of Jackson's iconic crotch-grabbing and moonwalk dance moves throughout, Brown stunned the audience when he burst into tears at the outset of Man in the Mirror, and looked as though he might be unable to make it through the song.

On the heels of both his spirited Jackson tribute and Fandemonium award win on the BET broadcast, some feel this could be the beginning of a comeback for Brown, who has kept out of the public eye since pleading guilty to felony assault charges in 2009, after a highly publicized incident in which he beat his then-girlfriend Rihanna. Others are speculating that his emotional response during his Jackson tribute could be a way to generate fan sympathy and revive his career.

I'm very curious to get your take on this one, readers. What did you think of Chris Brown's Jackson tribute?
