Drake + Kimmel + Twitter = musical bliss

Fans of homegrown hip-hop sensation Drake just got a little something extra to sing about, thanks to Jimmy Kimmel Live.

The Toronto-born rapper - whose debut album, Thank Me Later, is currently sitting atop the Billboard charts - made a memorable guest appearance on Kimmel's late-night talk show on Thursday night. In addition to performing live for a packed outdoor audience (who all sang along to his energetic rendition of Over), Drake proved equally entertaining while he was in the guest chair - drawing genuine laughs from Kimmel as he did a spot-on impression of his music-industry mentor Lil Wayne.

But Drake's most inspired moment came early in the program, in a pre-taped bit which showed a knapsack-toting Kimmel and the game hip-hop star kicking around some songwriting ideas in a high-school hallway (perhaps in a nod to Drake's roots as an actor on Degrassi: The Next Generation).

As Kimmel promised, the two proved to have a surprisingly similar musical "flow," coming up with some inspired rhymes in a number called Tweet Tweet, which featured deliberately inane lyrics pilfered from the twitter feeds of celebrities as varied as Justin Bieber, Paris Hilton, Snoop Dogg and Larry King. Though it was all played for laughs, the song's chorus (complete with hypnotic synths and high-pitched tweeting notes) is surprisingly hooky, and I wouldn't be surprised if the clip goes as viral as Kimmel's previous triumphant video collaborations, involving Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. Kudos to the talk-show host for consistently keeping things lively in late night.
