Tongue-in-cheek bedtime book goes viral

Go the F--- to SleepThe tongue-in-cheek book Go the F--- to Sleep has become a bestseller and reportedly been optioned for film, all before its release. (Amazon.com)

Even in the age of Twitter and viral videos, I still marvel at the speed with which an artistic endeavour can spin off into other media. Case in point: a hilariously tongue-in-cheek, yet-to-be-published spoof of bedtime reading titled Go the F--- to Sleep.

Though originally slated to be published in October, the book is now being rushed for a June release after a leaked PDF of book went viral. (Note: explicit language)

Earlier this month, a pair of devoted moms I work with shared a link to novelist Adam Mansbach's forthcoming book, penned mostly in the rhyming vernacular of children's lit but embellished with expletive-laden extra bits targeted to frustrated parents.

That weekend, incidentally (or conveniently?) coinciding with Mother's Day, Facebook was rife with moms and dads who "liked" the 32-page book and for whom the story -- a series of exasperated pleas for a child to just go to bed -- rang true.

Pre-orders have since sent the book to the top of the Amazon.com bestseller list and the title has now apparently been optioned for film as well. (Note: explicit language)

I definitely found the book funny and am eager to buy several copies for a few frazzled parents I know. Still, a movie? As a colleague said, "They can just come to my house! This is my life."
