New Margaret Atwood story short, bittersweet and on e-book

There's a new home for short-form fiction. And Margaret Atwood's found it.

The San Francisco based digital publisher, Byliner, has been commissioning miniature e-books since last spring. They started with non-fiction and moved into fiction last December. The whole point is providing material that can be read in one sitting.

This is where Margaret Atwood comes in. Byliner published her newest work of fiction on Wednesday. I'm Starved for You is 44 pages long. It's a dystopian tale of love and lust set in the future. And for just $2.99 you can get your Atwood fix.

What does the author think of the phenomena of short stories via e-book?

"I'm excited about Byliner, which I see as part of the short fiction revival that's taking place online," said Atwood in a press release.

She joins a pretty impressive list of authors with Byliner. Amy Tan, Ann Patchett and Walter Kim have all published new work in recent months.

What does this trend mean for readers? I read the story during my lunch hour.

Was I left wanting more Atwood? No, it was a satisfying read. And the cobb salad was pretty good too.
