In Niagara, jobs is issue 1

Jobs. It's the number one issue on the minds of voters in the Niagara region.

John Maloney, the incumbent Liberal MP for Welland knows this well. Last week, John Deere announced it will close its plant in his riding, the latest of a string of closures and job losses.

In a recent canvas of a local mall here, everyone Maloney talked to said they're worried about the economy and more closures. Yet, many voters here don't seem to have decided which party will best be able to address an expected worsening of the economy.

Maloney says he's glad to see help from the Conservatives for Ford and GM which was announced last week.
But he questions why other manufacturers like John Deere haven't also received the same kind of federal help.
