For many new parents, the task of raising a little human can feel daunting.

Yes, there are books to read. And there is no shortage of advice. But really, when it comes to it, parents wing a lot of this whole parenting thing. And many parents, quite frankly, have two hands.

In the video above, entitled Parenting, One-Handed, Alexis Hillyard walks you through how she gave birth and the early days of raising a kid — all done with one hand, as she was born with a limb difference.

"I cannot tell you how many folks have reached out to me to tell me that they didn't think they could ever have kids because they have a limb difference, because they couldn't physically do it," recalls Hillyard. "This is compounded by the fact that there are barely any (if any!) good resources out there for parents with a limb difference or disability."

Often, when creative people don't see themselves reflected in things that they should be a part of, they create. Because representation matters. In this case, the video above is a counter-argument to what Hillyard views as "the erasure of disability in mainstream society."

So in an effort to reframe the narrative, which is often centred on lack of desirability, tragedy and a feeling of being less than (among countless other narratives), this video serves as a means to say: "F—k you, society. I exist, I can raise a baby and I can do it in my own way."
