DIY Clothespin Menorah

CBC Staff

Dec 8, 2016

Here is a fun Hanukkah craft you can make with your kids, or you can make for them to use. Here is what you'll need:

  • clothespins
  • a piece of foam core or thick cardboard
  • paint
  • sparkly pipe cleaners
  • hot glue
  • gold paint
  • ribbon

materials needed to make menorah

Step One

First, cut the shape of your menorah out of thick cardboard or foam core. You can use the edge of a plate to trace as a good guide. Also be sure to cut two little half circles — these will be the legs/base of the menorah.

Step Two

Paint the base with gold paint (or the colour of your choice). Let it air dry.

Step Three

While your base is drying, have some fun painting your clothespins! NOTE: To make the middle candle of the menorah taller, just snip an extra piece of foam core and glue it to one of the clothespins.

Step Four

Once your base has dried, take whatever ribbon you'd like (we chose to stick with gold) and use it to cover the edges.

Step Five

Now it's time to add some flame to the candles. Grab some sparkly pipe cleaners and cut them into little strips, approximately 3.5 inches long (gold) and 1.5 inches long (red). Twist the gold piece into a flame shape, and then twist the red piece into the base.

Step Six

Glue the flames to your candles, and you're ready to go! Pinch them into place and your menorah is ready!
