Dating apps and websites, like Tinder, have risen to prominence as a way of meeting potential romantic partners. Reid Sontag, from Goodsoil, Sask., says this is because it widens his pool of dating candidates so that he can find the person that is just right for him more efficiently. Listen to his conversation with Checkup guest host Suhana Meharchand.

Suhana Meharchand: We're talking about online dating today, and Reid, I want to hear about your experiences.

Reid Sontag: I'm actually on my way to a Tinder date right now.

SM: For those who are not familiar, Tinder is one of those apps that lets you "swipe right" or say no to people you see there, and then meet them if you wish.

RS: Yes. So I'm making a case for online dating. When you're dating, you need to find someone who's a little bit opposite of you, to the right degree. That's important because that means that that person challenges you. I think that's the goal in a relationship and through life: to find someone that challenges you enough so that you and other person become the best you can possibly be. The key to that is finding that sweet point where someone challenges you just enough.

I think that Tinder and dating apps are great becauseit's such a specific sweet point that you're looking forwith these sites you create a much larger pool that you can search for that sweet spot and find it a lot faster and more efficiently.
