Canadiens add Ott, Davidson, send Desharnais to Oilers

The Montreal Canadiens are busy ahead of Wednesday's trade deadline, acquiring defenceman Brandon Davidson and forward Steve Ott.

30-year-old Desharnais has 4 goals in 31 games this season

The Montreal Canadiens and Edmonton Oilers have made a deal on the eve of the NHL trade deadline.

Montreal has acquired defenceman Brandon Davidson in exchange for forward David Desharnais. The deal was announced Tuesday night.

The 25-year-old Davidson played 28 games this season for Edmonton, recording one assist. The Lethbridge, Alta., native has five goals and 13 points in 91 career games.

Desharnais, 30, produced four goals and 10 points in 31 games this season with Montreal. Desharnais, from Laurier-Station, Que., has played 435 career games all with the Canadiens and has 79 goals and 250 points.

"I would like to thank David for all his years as a Montreal Canadien. He developed and matured within our organization providing valuable services. We wish him the utmost success with the continuation of his career," said Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin.

Ott acquired from Red Wings

Bergevincontinued his work early Wednesday by acquiring forward Steve Ott from the Detroit Red Wings for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

The 34-year-old Ott suited up for 42 games this season with the Red Wings and registered three goals and six points.

Ott made his NHL debut in 2002-03 with the Dallas Stars and has since played for the Buffalo Sabres, St. Louis Blues and Wings.

In 837 career NHL regular season, Ott has recorded 109 goals and 287 points.

The trade deadline is Wednesday at 3 p.m. ET.
