Let the iMagic begin

by Shirley Connor, CBC News online

With only 11 more sleeps till the iPhone arrives in the U.S., Apple's Steve Jobs is letting us know why it's a "truly magical product."

There are no spells or rabbits emerging from its nine-centimetre screen - but its got a great battery.

Monday's announcement touts the capacity of the phone's power pack eight hours to talk, six hours to surf, seven hours of video watching or 24 hours of audio.

Apple also revealed that plastic is out and glass is in. Optical-quality glass (as seen in crystal balls?) is supposed to reduce scratches and give a clearer view.

The phone-MP3 player-web browser, which works with PCs and Mac computers, goes on sale in the U.S. June 29, with a $499 US price tag on the 4 GB model and $599 US on the 8 GB version.

Glass? In a mobile phone?? Clearly Mr. Jobs has never dropped his phone! Sounds like one more reason to keep people buying new phones - you know that a cracked screen won't be covered by the warantee!! As for battery life ... I think as consumers we should start demanding higher quality. We have all put up with crumby batteries for so long that we almost expect them to be a hassle. Why don't they stop trying to cram in silly features like mp3 players and cameras, and just make the *phone* part work good first!
