With May right around the corner, students are starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel, one that points to the end of the school year in June. But for a certain subset of students, the time to think about exams and final projects - still weeks away - is less important than the task at hand: building a better robot.

The VEX Robotics Competition World Championship in Dallas kicks off today and finishes on Saturday, and there are 11 teams from Canada representing six schools competing in the competition for high school students.

Schools attending the event include three British Columbia schools (West Vancouver Secondary, Gladstone Secondary in Vancouver, Moscrop Secondary in Burnaby, B.C.) and three Ontario schools (Sir Winston Churchill Secondary and Governor Simcoe Secondary in St. Catherines, and Alexander Mackenzie High School in Richmond Hill).

The game in question this year is called "Elevation", in which teams of robots compete on a 12-foot by 12-foot field, with each trying to place cubes in goals strategically.

We'll be keeping tabs to see if any of our Canadian students strike it big at the competition. To get in the swing of things, here's a YouTube video from Alexander Mackenzie's Mustang Robotics showing their robot at work.
